27/06/2023 - VINOUS: 90 POINTS FOR BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2018 VILLA POGGIO SALVI

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is youthfully understated in the glass, showing hints of floral perfumes and sugar-dusted blackberries beneath a cloud of sweet smoke. This is velvety in feel, yet not heavy or dense; instead, it’s finessed with pretty red and black fruits that cascade across a core of saline minerality. While structured, this maintains a lovely balance, tapering off with crystalline tannins that frame lingering hints of tart wild berry and balsamic spice. The 2018 is focused more on grace and purity than power. – Eric Guido

04/06/2023 - WINESCRITIC.COM: 92/100 PER IL BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO 2018 POMONA VILLA POGGIO SALVI

Classic and decisive in the sensory profile alternating notes of raspberries, currants, cherries, linden and lemon peel. Green mandarins and amaretto describe the secondary scene. Medium bodied, well polymerized, soft tannins and a tense finale which needs time to lengthen.

22/05/2023 - DECANTER: 91 PUNTI PER IL BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO RISERVA 2017 VILLA POGGIO SALVI

To the west of Montalcino, Villa Poggio Salvi’s 20-hectares rise from 350 to 500 metres above sea level. The Riserva is a selection of bunches from throughout. While not tired out by long ageing in large Slavonian oak casks, aromas are definitely tertiary and savoury. Nutmeg and cinnamon-spiced cherry make way for sweet tobacco, leather and a subtle suggestion of roasted meat, finishing with a tart cranberry-like note. There is plenty of vigour and chew from exuberantly extracted tannins, and the large, generous structure currently overpowers the fruit.

19/04/2023 - VINOUS: 92 POINTS FOR BRUNELLO POMONA 2018 VILLA POGGIO SALVI

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Pomona is enticingly spicy and fresh, with bright strawberry and waxy cherry complemented by hints of lavender and licorice. It’s like pure silk on the palate, seamless and suave, yet quickly gains in tension as tart wild berry fruit and fine-grained tannins saturate. This finishes long and structured with a lingering concentration and residual acids to balance, as violet inner florals slowly fade. – Eric Guido
